Ron Hastings

Ron is the founder of Hastings Legal and has been at the heart of the business for more than 27 years. He began his career as a solicitor in family law before moving into property, and his breadth of knowledge across both legal and property work has shaped the firm’s distinctive approach. This unique blend remains central to Hastings Legal today.

Ahead of the times, and with the foresight of his wife Helen, Hastings was in at the start of the property marketing revolution. Keeping it in the family, Helen designed and launched one of the first dedicated property websites in the Borders — a step that set the firm apart early on and remains part of its culture of innovation.

While no longer fully office-based, Ron continues to play a key role as a driving force in the business. He supports the team with legal input when needed, contributes to strategic decisions, and takes an active interest in how the firm develops and grows. Building strong relationships has always been central to his approach, and he believes reputation, trust and humility are the foundations of long-term success.
Ron takes pride in seeing both the firm and its people thrive, and enjoys watching the next generation of the Hastings team grow into their roles. His focus has always been on combining professional excellence with genuine client care — values which remain embedded in the business.
Away from work, Ron is a keen golfer and runner, and enjoys playing music and spending time at home in the garden. Favourite local spots include the Duchess Drive and Bowhill Estate near Selkirk, and he values the quality of life that comes from living and working in the Borders.
